Fernwytch's Noob Guide for Noobs wanting to get into Vtubing With Live2D Models

So you're considering becoming a Vtuber and under the impression it's expensive to start? I'm here to help you understand that you can start on a budget.I'll be sharing with you what helped me and what I personally know. I understand there are many other options and ways to Vtube. I just want to stress the information below is how I got started and how I will use it to help others! If you need any hands on help I can do my best to assist you. I will leave my personal links below for contact. Switching to Vtubing was the best thing I have done in my time as a streamer and content creator. I am truly happy to help even if my knowledge is still new and learning.

Apps & Programs

You will use VTube Studio to load and control your model. NVidia Tracker is an optional download for a facial tracking option used within VTS for webcam users ONLY. The NVidia Tracker for webcam users provides better tracking. You will need a camera. Webcam or iPhone.Decent Lighting is a PLUS.I use an iPhone for tracking, and if you decide to go the iPhone route, you will need to find VTube Studio on the app store and pay $20 for the premium. You can connect wirelessly, but I prefer using a USB-C to connect my PC to my phone to keep it charged and for a better connection.

Streaming App/Plugin

I included OBS below just incase we had some new streaming Vtubers reading this. OBS Studio is what you use to go live on Twitch or your platform of choice.Spout2 is an optional plugin to capture your model into OBS. If you don't wish to mess with Spout2 right now you can capture using game capture.

Customizable Models

Above are customizble models. Think of it as a 'character creator' in a MMO or RPG. You can change hair color, eye color, skin color, outfit color, often hairstyle, outfit style, and give your model that 'personality' you'd like to show off.The models are edited inside Vtube Studio once you get them loaded in.

Video Guides

These above guides will help you get started with loading in your model and setting up Spout2 in OBS.Typically each model comes with a guide of its own on how to edit the model. However to edit the model you will need to 'Create an Expression' found under the pink cogwheel -> hotkeys & expressions -> expression editor. Then to change even more colors: settings -> model settings -> customize model -> customize multiply/screen color for ArtMeshes.

Check List

  • Vtube Studio

  • Camera

  • Model

This is your simple check off list. These are the three things you need to Vtube. You have these then it's just learning the program. I know it's cliche to say but Google will be your best friend for this process. It helped me the most once I got the 'basic' check list checked off.
